We’re obsessed with authentic vintage Kanthas- they make us want to cuddle up, close our eyes and dream!!
Their bright, happy colors and wildly intricate hand-stitching always bring a sense of history and exotic lands home.
Kanthas originate in Bangladesh and eastern states in India and part of West Bengal and Odisha.
A technique passed down from mothers to daughters for generations- women stitch together layer upon layer of old saris and relished scraps to create throws used as blankets and cushions.
The result is a reversible quilt of the perfect weight and old world charm.
Each throw is truly unique and tells it’s own tale. Tales of love, friendship, ceremony- and some not meant to be known or understood. Each Kantha weaves it’s tales together as various pieces are bound together by thread.
Uniqueness is expected and patches on top of patches are often put together to make a whole.
Handmade vintage Kantha’s average approximately 85” x 60” but sizes will always vary.
